Barbara Rosenberg, directeur de la Federation des Scientistes Américains
(FAS) du programme de recherche militaire des armements chimiques et
biologiques a prétendu sur un programme nocturne d'actualités de la BBC que
l'agence (CIA) avait demandé une étude théorique il y a quatre années au
sujet d'une attaque par voie postale d'anthrax.Et elle prétend que l'agence d'espionnage pourrait aussi avoir ordonné un
tri séparé dont la connaissance pourrait avoir été utilisé
par ceux qui étaient responsables des attaques a l'anthrax.Elle dit au cours de l'émission que des agents de terrain pourraient avoir
reçu ce job et auraient reçu la liberté de décider exactement comment
l'appliquer.Le résultat pourrait avoir été un projet qui tourna mal après qu'un agent
eut décidé d'utiliser le programme pour des fins propres et viser les médias
et le Sénat pour des motifs propres inattendus dans le cadre de ce projet
gouvernemental.
Le Dr Rosenberg raconta que la personne qui exécuta les attaques a l'anthrax
avait connaissance et de la Loi et des aspects pratiques du travail
d'enquête ce qui lui permit de rester impuni.Cinq personnes moururent et 13 furent infectées par des lettres a l'anthrax
envoyées a deux politiciens éminents et une série de médias.
Parmi les décédés, il y a avait le rédacteur Bob Stevens, de 63 ans, né en
grande Bretagne qui a inhalé les spores mortelles alors qu'il travaillait a
American Media Incorporated a Boca Raton, Florida.Le Dr Rosenberg a dit que le FBI enquêtait sur un suspect depuis Octobre.

AN American expert last night
claimed last autumn's deadly anthrax attacks may have been the result of CIA
research which went disastrously wrong. Barbara Rosenberg, director of the Federation
of American Scientists' Chemical and Biological Weapons Program, claimed on
BBC's News-night programme that the spy agency had commissioned a theoretical
study four years ago on the likely impact of anthrax being sent through the
mail.
And she alleges the spy agency may also have ordered a separate "field trial" whose knowledge could have been used by whoever was responsible for the anthrax attacks.
She told the programme, "Some very expert field person would have been given this job and it would have been left to him to decide exactly how to carry it out.
"The result might have been a project gone badly awry if he decided to use it for his own purposes and target the media and the Senate for his own motives as not intended by the government project."
Dr Rosenberg said the person who carried out the anthrax attacks had knowledge both of the law and of the practicalities of the detective work it would need for him to be caught.
Five people died and 13 were infected when anthrax-laced letters were sent to two prominent politicians and a series of media outlets.
Among the dead were British-born picture editor Bob Stevens, 63, who inhaled the deadly spores while working at American Media Incorporated in Boca Raton, Florida.
Dr Rosenberg has said the
FBI had known of a suspect since October.
